- Abstract
- This study aims to address the problem of talent migration in men’s professional cricket in Zimbabwe by identifying its causes, impacts, and potential solutions. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys to collect data from key stakeholders, including players, coaches, administrators, and fans. The research identified salary disparities, administrative instability, political interference, and lack of transparency as significant factors that are driving players to migrate from the country. These issues have resulted in the diminished performance of the national team as well as weakened player development pathways, and also leading to a loss of role models in domestic cricket. The study therefore aims to propose a framework to mitigate these challenges. This research aims to contribute to academic literature on talent migration in cricket and provides practical solutions for stakeholders within Zimbabwean cricket. It highlights the need for collaboration among stakeholders to retain talent as well as to foster the growth of cricket in Zimbabwe. Some key words include talent migration, salary disparities, governance, and player development.
