- Developing a coaching framework for beginner bowling techniques in Zimbabwe women’s cricket to improve bowling performance
- Abstract
- The purpose of the study was to provide a framework for implementing effective bowling techniques in Zimbabwean women's cricket by examining performance-influencing factors. The problem originated from poor performance of the Zimbabwe women’s cricket bowlers both domestically and internationally. The research was done using a qualitative approach. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The data was analysed with NVivo software. The findings revealed that intentional variation in bowling techniques enhanced performance, while poorly executed lengths and widths, particularly short and wide deliveries, led to high economy rates. Although targeted drills were found to improve technical precision and awareness, existing coaching frameworks were perceived as disjointed and lacking resources. The study highlighted the need for consistent support to translate these improvements into match performance. The insights offered are valuable for advancing cricket coaching, particularly in under-represented areas like Zimbabwe.
