- An investigation problems faced by Grade six (6) learners in solving problems involving addition of decimal numbers at a Primary School in Mutare District, Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe.Decimal numbers pose significant challenges for learners at Grade 6 level often leading to misconceptions and difficulties in solving problems with these mathematical numbers. This research aimed to explore the specific problems faced by learners in solving problems involving decimal numbers and to identify potential strategies to enhance their understanding and proficiency in this topic. The research employed a Mixed-Methods Approach/Research, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A structured questionnaire was administered to a diverse sample of Grade 6 learners to gather quantitative data on their difficulties, misconceptions and attitudes towards teaching and learning of decimal numbers. Additionally, in-depth interviews were conducted with facilitators to gain deeper insight into the challenges faced and potential solutions. Data analysis involved the use of descriptive statistics to summarize questionnaire responses and inferential statistics to examine relationships between variables. Thematic analysis was applied to the interview transcripts to identify common challenges and potential strategies for improvement. Ethical considerations were upheld throughout the research process ensuring participant confidentiality, informed consent and voluntary participation. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the challenges faced by learners in solving problems involving decimal numbers and provide practical recommendations for educators and curriculum developers to enhance teaching and learning strategies.
