- Abstract
- This dissertation examined the development of strategies that can enhance efficiency in utilisation of age-appropriate sports facilities and equipment in primary schools situated in the high-density areas of Harare in Zimbabwe. To support the notion, the study employed a mixed method research design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, respectively to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape of sports facilities and equipment available and their impact in primary schools. The study also identified significant challenges faced by primary schools, hindering utilisation of adequate sports infrastructure, access to resources, and community involvement. The research further analysed existing policies governing the provision of sports resources and their implications for primary physical activity engagement. Based on the findings, the study proposed a series of targeted strategies advocating for policy reforms, promotion of age-appropriate sports facilities and equipment, and student sports participation. These strategies were designed to empower school stakeholders, including educators, administrators, and policymakers, to address the existing gaps and enhance the overall quality of both sports facilities and equipment in primary schools. By promoting awareness and offering viable solutions, this research sought to support the establishment of inclusive and supportive environments that encourage students’ active participation in physical activities, thereby contributing to the holistic development of sports in primary school.
