- Abstract
- Cyclone Idai brought psychological impact to the Chimanimani people. The major thrust for the research was to assess the psychological issues brought by Cyclone Idai to the people of Chimanimani and the environment in general. Questioning and interviewing were used as instruments to gather data. The population sample was made of 200 participants around Chimanimani. The main psychological impacts of Cyclone Idai include; distress, anxiety, emotional trauma and depression were observed to the natural cause. Economic and social support like insurance and risk transfer this will develop and promote insurance and risk transfer mechanism to support cyclone risk management. Lastly, the stakeholders will collaborate on community based initiatives where they will empower local communities to take ownership of disaster risk reduction efforts and to establish volunteer programs to support cyclone preparedness and response. These initiatives are meant to combat the problem of Cyclone Idai as a result of climate change.
