Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) in promoting peace, healing, and reconciliation among youth in Harare. The purpose of this study is to explore and evaluate the impact of the NPRC's initiatives on youth and their perceptions of peace building and reconciliation. A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing in depth interviews and focus group discussions to gather data from youth participants in Harare. The findings of the study reveal that the NPRC has made some progress in promoting peace, healing, and reconciliation among youth in Harare. The initiatives undertaken by the NPRC, such as outreach programs, community dialogues, and the establishment of safe spaces for dialogue, have provided opportunities for youth to engage in discussions about peace and reconciliation. The study highlights the significance of these initiatives in fostering understanding, empathy, and dialogue among youth from diverse backgrounds. However, the effectiveness of t he NPRC's efforts is influenced by various factors. Challenges such as limited resources, inadequate youth participation, and a lack of awareness about the NPRC's mandate and activities have hindered its impact. The study concludes that while the NPRC has made strides towards promoting peace, healing, and reconciliation among youth in Harare, there is a need for enhanced strategies and increased youth engagement to maximize its effectiveness. Based on the findings, several recommendations are put forth. It is recommended that the NPRC allocate more resources and funding towards youth focused initiatives, ensuring that their specific needs and perspectives are adequately addressed. The study also suggests the importance of targeted awareness campaigns to incr ease youth participation and knowledge about the NPRC's role in peace building and reconciliation. Additionally, fostering partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including youth organizations and community leaders, can enhance the NPRC's outreach and imp act.
