- Abstract
- This research seeks to find out the impacts of Chinese investments on Zimbabwe’s economy focusing on the case study of Bindura. The main objectives are to identity how mining by Chinese investors contribute to the local economic development, to assess the role of government policies in facilitating or hindering Chinese investment in Bindura and to identify the challenges faced by locals due to Chinese investment. The qualitative and quantitative data approach were used in an attempt to gather information on the research questions. While Chinese investment has brought about economic benefits, significant challenges remain regarding labor rights, environmental sustainability and community relations. The findings highlight the need for a balanced approach to Foreign Direct Investment one that promotes economic growth while safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of local communities. Future research should explore longitudinal impacts and comparative case studies across different regions in Zimbabwe to provide further insights into the dynamics of foreign investment in the mining sector.
