The study aimed to examine the health status and needs of commercial sex workers (CSWs) in Ward 20, Shamva District, concentrating on the challenges they face and the effectiveness of existing health interventions. The research objectives focused on recognizing health challenges, barriers to healthcare access, and the impact of current support programs on the well-being of CSWs. A qualitative approach was implemented, utilizing a case study design that incorporated in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and key informant interviews for data collection. Purposive and snowball sampling methods were utilized to involve participants effectively. The results showed significant health challenges faced by CSWs, including high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), mental health issues, and inadequate sanitation, compounded by stigma and discrimination. Key barriers to accessing healthcare were identified, such as fear of judgment from healthcare providers and logistical difficulties. Furthermore, while existing health interventions, including educational workshops, were acknowledged, the lack of follow-up support weakened their effectiveness. The research study stressed the importance of incorporating mental health services and addressing stigma to improve health outcomes for CSWs. Recommendations include developing comprehensive health programs tailored to the unique needs of CSWs, enhancing training for healthcare providers on cultural competence, and establishing community engagement programs to reduce stigma. The researcher advocates for collaboration among social workers, local health authorities, and community organizations to create supportive environments that empower CSWs and improve their overall health and well-being.
