This project aims to develop a hybrid energy storage system that optimally manages power distribution between a lithium-ion battery and a supercapacitor in a solar-powered systems. The system is designed to handle variable power demands, using the supercapacitor for high-frequency, short-duration power surges, while the lithium battery supplies steady, long-term energy. A
PIC16F877A microcontroller is used for energy management, controlling the switching between the two storage components based on real-time load measurements. Initial results show significant improvements in battery lifespan and system efficiency by reducing stress on the battery during power surges. The system offers a reliable, cost-effective solution for optimising energy usage in renewable energy systems.
