The Influence Of Information And Communication
Technologies (Icts) On Teaching And Learning Of Ordinary Level Mathematics In Goromonzi District Of Mashonaland East Province.
- Abstract
-
The main aim of this study was to investigate the challenges faced by teachers and learners when using instructional technologies in the teaching and learning of Mathematics at Ordinary Level. The study was done in Goromonzi District found in Mashonaland East Province. The researcher used the descriptive research design to collect data, in which data collection instruments included: questionnaire, interviews as well as observations. A total of 60
participants were used in this study, among them: ten Mathematics teachers and fifty Ordinary Level
learners, all sampled from five secondary schools in one district. The data collected by the researcher indicated that the use of technology in the teaching and learning of Mathematics was beneficial in enabling teachers to cover much content within a short span of time and to improve learners’ concentration span. It was also established that ICT use in Mathematics teaching and learning was impeded by a myriad of factors that include: lack of technical expertise, unavailability of electrical power, inadequate time to prepare instructional resources,
inaccessibility of instructional devices as well as over-crowding in classes. In light of the findings, the researcher recommended schools to: find alternative power sources in cases of power cuts, control their enrolment and to provide technical support as well as improving on technical expertise. The study was completed in 2024. - Date
