This study investigated the causes and effects of water pollution in Honde River in Mutasa District of Manicaland province as well as suggesting solutions to mitigate the causes and effects. Water quality is a big issue that mankind is facing in recent years. The study was conducted using grounded theory, which employs an inductive approach, a qualitative research method. A self-generated questionnaire was used to collect data, and the collection and analysis of data was done ethically. Tables were employed in the study to present data followed by the analysis and interpretation of the information illustrated. Results were analyzed using pie charts and graphs. The study discovered that in recent years, global water pollution has been largely attributed to anthropogenic activities such as mining, agriculture, industrial activities and domestic
effluent. In the case of Honde River in Mutasa District Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe, gold panning and agriculture in the upstream and
surrounding areas are known to discharge of chemicals and pesticides into the Honde River.
The burden of disease caused by waterborne infections is of particular importance since many
of these cases could theoretically be prevented with environmental awareness campaigns on proper mining methods as well as sustainable agricultural practices. - Date
