Vegetable intake is a significant part of a balanced diet and traditional vegetables are an economical source of nutrition. There is a peril of reaching poisonous levels of heavy metals in plants that are in contaminated environments. Continued intake of polluted vegetables can cause severe health problems. This work determined heavy metals, transfer factors and health risks in Hurungwe (Karoi) Black Jack soil using atomic absorption spectroscopy. The organic content of the studied soil samples varied from 1 76 to 2. 08%, which indicates that it is a
mineral soil .The saturation of heavy metals analyzed in the soil samples varied from 5 to 9 mg/kg. Concentration levels were 4-7 mg/kg in leaves and 3-8 mg/kg in stems. In root samples, the concentrations were 1-6 mg/kg in all samples. All black-jacketed samples fell within the range of heavy and moderate contamination. The estimated daily intake of cadmium in Kemapomdo Black Jack was 0. 18 and 0 06 mg/kg/day for adults and 0.06mg/kg/day and 0. 06 mg/kg/day for adults, respectively, during the combined values were lower Jinga and Chidamoyo population more than Kemapondo because Kemapondo is close to mining and activities compared to Jinga and Chidamoyo. The hazard target followed a similar trend to the estimated daily consumption in all studied regions. The present study
proved that samples obtained from Kemapondo and areas around Kemapondo have highlevels of heavy metals which fall above the allowable levels suggesting increased health risk emanating from consuming black jack growing in these areas. - Date
