This study was conducted at Nkulumane High School to enhance the learning of Microbiology and Biotechnology in large classes. A case study of Nkulumane High School. Convenient and purposive sampling were used and 2 Biology teachers and 10 students were part of this study.
The case study was used as a research design and data was collected through semi structured interviews and semi structured questionnaires from the teachers and the students. The findings indicated that large classes can be taught effectively using ICT tools like WhatsApp, Facebook
and Hands -on activities. Students benefited from team teaching and peer assisted teaching.
The students benefited from team teaching and also improved on carrying out experiments . The teachers came across a number of challenges in using ICT tools and they had to seek assistance from IT teachers. It was concluded that teachers need to be full capacitated so that they teach Microbiology and Biotechnology to large classes. It was recommended that teachers should be fully capacitated so that they can deal effectively with any challenges like deficiency in information and communication technology (ICT) resources, constraints in laboratory and library resources, infrastructure deficiencies in teaching Microbiology and Biotechnology to large classes. - Date
