Abstract

We live in a wired world, where nearly everything in our lives requires a steady supply of electricity to remain in operation. Sometimes extreme weather conditions, car accidents, falling trees, unusual high power demands, or even damage caused by animals can cause severe disruption in a local or regional electrical grid, leaving our home without electricity for hours or more at a time, so we use batteries in our houses. This project entitled design and construction of an auto turn off battery charger of a lead acid solar battery charger. This charger charge a battery automatically and when the battery is fully charged it will automatically shut off switch off.
The designed charger consist of a circuit which performs charging and displaying the battery
charge by green light emitting diode during charging. It also consist of a turn off system which a red light emitting diode (led) to show it is fully charged. A turn off system of zener which diverts the current flow to the ground reference and protects the battery from over charging. This is the purpose of this charger mainly is improve life expectancy of a battery. Electricity from the solar panel is generated during the day with peak generation during the day. This
generation fluctuates with various weather conditions and there is no generation during the
night, it is not possible to constantly supply the demands from the load end. Rechargeable
battery store electricity from grid for later use and can be conveniently recharged after being drained. Since this battery will be charged using a solar panel it will only charge during the day. This battery will be charged using a turn off charger.
