The education sector in Zimbabwe faced a series of changes and reforms due to many factors such as technological developments and government policies that are inclined towards Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and the need to embrace education 5.0. In order to meet government expectations, numerous teaching strategies have been developed. One such strategy was using online video tutorials to primary and secondary schools. However, there was dearth of information on the effectiveness of online video tutorials in the teaching and learning of mathematics at form one. This compelled the research to carry out this study to bridge in this gap. A quasi-experimental research design was used in the study were data was collected using pre-test and post-test, questionnaire, interviews and observation.
The population of the study consists of head, deputy head, 5 mathematics teachers and 120 form learners at the study area. To obtain a precise sample lottery sampling was used for learners whilst purposive sampling was used for staff members. From the first objective, research findings shows that online video tutorials enhances performance of learners, develop interest of learners towards the subject and learners learn using their own pace. shading hinders the use of online video tutorials in the teaching and learning of mathematics at form one. Measures to address the challenges found in the study include staff development of teachers, use of alternative energy sources and seeking donation of ICT gadgets. - Date
