- Abstract
-
This study explores the impact of environmental factors on biology education among secondary
school students in Chegutu District, Zimbabwe. Using Urie Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems
Theory as the conceptual framework, the research examines how various environmental elements—such as water scarcity, deforestation, and pollution—affect students' learning experiences and academic performance in biology. The study employs a qualitative methodology, incorporating interviews with students, teachers, and administrators, and document reviews to gather comprehensive data. Key objectives include assessing both positive and negative environmental influences, their relationship with academic outcomes, and students' perceptions of these factors. Additionally, the research aims to identify effective strategies and interventions that leverage beneficial environmental aspects while mitigating adverse ones. Findings reveal significant correlations between environmental conditions and students' biology education, emphasizing the importance of supportive home, school, and community environments. Recommendations include enhancing access to clean water, promoting environmental education, and involving community stakeholders in creating a conducive learning environment. This study provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders, offering targeted strategies to improve biology education through environmental improvements. - Date
