- Abstract

This study aimed to understand how Zaka district teachers felt about the effect of CALA on students' academic performance in mathematics at the ordinary level. For data collection, analysis, and discussion, the researcher used both qualitative and quantitative methods. The investigator employed a questionnaire and an interview guide to collect data. Ten female teachers and eighteen male teachers who were purposefully sampled for the study took part. Data from observations and interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis and descriptive
statistics. The study questions led to the development of the main themes, which are as follows: how CALA affects academic performance; how teachers prepare for and comprehend CALA; and how to mitigate its detrimental effects. The research study reviewed that there are many
positive and negative impacts of CALA on academic performance. From the findings, the researcher concluded that Ordinary Level mathematics teachers are not prepared to implement CALA in line with the demands of the new curriculum. This led to negative impacts on academic performance, even though there are also positive impacts of CALA on academic
performance researcher recommends that the policymakers should see to it that there is enough
training for teachers for them to be able to implement CALA properly in Ordinary Level mathematics, so as to minimize the negative impacts of CALA on academic performance. - Date
