Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of employing the discovery method and integrating technology in teaching and learning circle geometry. Circle geometry is a fundamental and its peculiarity poses challenges that make students find it hard to understand and appreciate circle geometry concepts necessitating a different approach to teaching. As a response to this study used discovery method mediated by technology in making teaching and learning of the topic in question easier. A quantitative approach was used in this research. A semi structure questionnaire was used to elicit data, and a test was also administered to twenty-five learners who were randomly selected. An evaluation was made thereafter to assess the change of attitude and the effectiveness of combining discovery method and technology in the teaching and learning of circle geometry. It has been noted that errors in circle
geometry concepts could be attributed to methods of teaching used, unavailability of instruction material, misconception of concepts. The significance of integrating discovery method and technology is that there is enhanced conceptual understanding. This approach fosters critical thinking and allows learners to construct knowledge through hands on experience. The findings showed that learners understanding improved and learning environments changed as integrating discovery method and technology catered for diverse learning styles and engagement. There is need for professional development for educators to be able to use technology. Incorporate dynamic geometry by using tools like GeoGebra, Desmos or Cabri geometry to create interactive lessons when teaching circle geometry in mathematics.
