- Abstract
- This study was aimed to investigate causes of poor performance at Donnybrook Primary school under Mabvuku Tafara Cluster. Poor performance in mathematics remains a pervasive concern in educational settings, necessitating a nuanced understanding of its underlying causes. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing questionnaires to investigate the tripartite factors contributing to poor mathematics performance. The first dimension explored student related factors, revealing that weak fundamental skills, mathematics anxiety, and ineffective learning habits significantly hinder academic success. The second dimension explained teacher- related factors, highlighting that inadequate teaching training, late coming, absenteeism, and delayed feedback compromise instructional quality. The third dimension investigated school-related factors, showing that overcrowded classrooms, inadequate, inadequate resources, and poor school leadership exacerbate the problem. This research underscores the interplay between these factors, emphasizing the need for comprehensive approach to address poor performance in mathematics. By identifying and addressing these causes, educators and policymakers can develop targeted interventions to enhance mathematics education and foster a culture of numeracy.
