- Abstract
- This qualitative study explores the experiences of girl child in taking up STEM subjects at the secondary school level. In-depth interviews with 30 girl students and 15 teachers from urban and rural secondary schools were conducted to gather data. The findings reveal that girls face a complex array of barriers, including societal expectations, lack of role models, and inadequate resources, which hinder their participation in STEM subjects. Despite these challenges, the study also highlights the resilience and determination of girls who pursue STEM subjects, and the importance of supportive teachers and family members in facilitating their success. The study's findings have implications for policy and practice aimed at promoting girls' participation in STEM education.
