- An Assessment on differentiated instruction in Mathematics at ordinary level
- Abstract
- The study ought to assess the implementation of differentiated instruction in the teaching of mathematics at the ordinary level. The research was motivated by the increasing student diversity in classrooms and the need to improve student engagement and performance in mathematics. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations involving mathematics teachers and students in selected secondary schools. The findings revealed that while teachers are aware of differentiated instruction, its application remains inconsistent due to challenges such as large class sizes, limited resources and lack of professional training. Students expressed a preference for instructional methods that cater to their readiness levels, learning styles, and interests. The study concludes that differentiated instruction has the potential to enhance learning outcomes in mathematics when effectively implemented. Recommendations include increased teacher training, provision of teaching resources, and curriculum flexibility to support differentiation practices. The study contributes to improving inclusive pedagogical strategies and supports the use of differentiated instruction as a tool for equity and effectiveness in mathematics education at the secondary school level.
