- Abstract
- This study is going to determine the caffeine content of four commercial energy drinks sold in Zimbabwe. Purposive and convenience sampling were used to select three energy drinks for each brand, a total of 12 energy drinks were used. Two methods, iodometry and spectrophotometry were used to analyze caffeine in the samples. The comparative results of the study showed that, there were significant differences in levels of caffeine in drinks. The study also established that spectrophotometry results were higher while iodemetry results were lower, but all values were close range of the labelled container. Therefore the researcher recommend the need to quantify caffeine in large sample of energy drink formulations including coffee and tea brands. Furthermore there is need to compare methods used with chromagraphic technique.
