- Abstract
- The study sought to assess the challenges encountered during the teaching and learning of Biology practical skills at Ordinary Level schools in Insiza District. The qualitative research approach was employed and a case study research design provided tools for research to study the complex phenomena within its context. Data was collected from Biology classroom practitioners, heads of departments and three administrators, and Ordinary Level Biology learners from the three sampled schools in Insiza district. Purposive sampling was used to select all participants. Questionnaires were used to collect data from learners and administrators. Interviews were used to collect data from classroom practitioners. The findings indicated that lack of resources and infrastructure, poor connectivity, lack of financial engagement by stake holders and parents, lack of knowledge and unfunded government initiatives are the major challenges in the teaching and learning of Biology practical skills in Insiza district. The author recommended that dialogue could improve stakeholder engagement, small business startups in school could cushion financial blows, improved improvisations skills, networking and collaboration with other knowledgeable individuals could help reduce challenges met in teaching and learning of practical skills in Ordinary level Biology in Insiza district
