- This research investigates strategies for improving Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) performance in the construction industry, with a case study of Instant Tar Zimbabwe. The study addresses the persistent challenges of workplace accidents and safety compliance in a high-risk sector. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through questionnaires, unstructured interviews, and focus group discussions involving managers, regulatory authorities, and general employees. Key findings reveal that resource limitations, inconsistent management commitment, cultural attitudes, training deficiencies, and communication gaps significantly hinder safety compliance. The study highlights the evolution of safety policies, technological innovations, and the critical role of leadership in fostering a safety-oriented culture. Recommendations focus on enhancing funding, leadership engagement, continuous training, and effective communication to improve OHS outcomes. This research contributes to the body of knowledge on OHS in Zimbabwe’s construction sector and provides practical guidance for stakeholders aiming to reduce workplace injuries and promote a safer working environment.
