- The mining sector is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s economy, contributing significantly to national GDP and exports. However, mining operations are associated with considerable environmental, governance and social challenges, including habitat destruction, pollution, and community displacement. In response, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles have gained prominence, emphasizing the need for sustainable and ethical mining practices. Understanding the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of mining stakeholders regarding ESG is critical for effective implementation and compliance. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of ESG among employees at Freda Rebecca Gold Mine in Zimbabwe. The level of knowledge was generally high with an average score of 4.5 with the knowledge skewed towards environmental and social aspect with limited knowledge of governance. Job role influenced knowledge of ESG principles with managerial and technical staff demonstrating higher ESG familiarity and more positive attitudes toward sustainability initiatives compared to operational workers. Educational level had an influence on ESG knowledge and attitudes with higher educated workers showing higher levels of knowledge and more positive. Key barriers included insufficient training, limited resources, and inadequate integration of ESG into daily operations.
