- Abstract
- Apex-10 is a biostimulant developed by Acme Biosciences, a leading agricultural biotech company based in California. It was created using a proprietary blend of naturally-derived plant extracts and microbial fermentation products. Apex-10 is designed to enhance plant growth, vigor, and yield in a variety of crop types. This study evaluated the effects of the bio stimulant Apex 10 and the compound fertilizer C on the quality and yield of two rape varieties, Rampart and English Giant. The experiment was carried out at Bindura University farm and the treatments were laid out using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in a factorial arrangement with two factors involved, variety with 2 levels English giant and Rampart. The second factor was nitrogen source with compound C fertilizer, apex 10 and a control with no added nitrogen. The results showed significant differences based on interactions between nitrogen sources and variety (p<0.05). The compound C fertilizer recorded the highest measurements for most parameters, including leaf length, leaf area, chlorophyll content, plant height, leaf count, and fresh weight. The two rape varieties responded differently to the nitrogen sources. English Giant rape recorded the highest plant height, chlorophyll content, and leaf length. In contrast, the Rampart variety had the highest leaf area and fresh weight. These findings suggest that the compound C fertilizer was more effective at improving the growth and yield characteristics of both rape varieties compared to the Apex 10 bio stimulant. The differential responses of the two varieties indicate that variety selection is an important factor when using these nitrogen sources. Farmers are recommended to use compound C as a recommended nitrogen source in combination with apex 10 bio stimulant as it is a fertilizer enhancer rather than a source of nitrogen for their crops.
