- Abstract
- The study evaluated the effects different levels of Extra boost and ammonium nitrate on growth, yield and quality of fine beans (Lomani) which is a variety from SeedCo in Bindura. The objectives of the study were to determine the effects of different levels of extra boost and ammonium nitrate on the vegetative growth of fine beans pre-harvest parameters, reproductive growth and yield. Primary data used for the study was obtained using experimental plots. Randomised complete block design was used with different levels of extra boost and ammonium nitrate in each plot where each experiment (treatment) had three replicates making them eighteen beds. The application rate of extra boost and ammonium nitrate zero units means no application, 100 units was recommended, 150units was above recommended and 50 was below the recommended. Results shows that on combination ratio of 150:150 had a positive impact on growth and development of fine beans. Therefore the application ratio of 50:150 performed lower which resulted in the diminishing of plant growth. Yield from bed T2 and T6 produced high yield and high number of pods demonstrated that the combination with more extra boost is more effective. However leaf rust and leafhopper were major problems during the experiment. The study recommends that the combination of extra boost and ammonium nitrate should balance to produce higher yields and quality fine beans.
