- Abstract
- This study investigated Science teachers‟ experiences towards implementing Education 5.0 focusing on Gadaga Secondary School in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) district in Mashonaland East province. The objectives of the study were to examine the nature of Science teaching at Gadaga Secondary School in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) district in Mashonaland East province with reference to the Education 5.0; to assess the problems faced by Science teachers in implementing Education 5.0 at Gadaga Secondary School in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) district in Mashonaland East province and to recommend ways of reducing problems faced by Science teachers towards implementing Education 5.0 at Gadaga Secondary School in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) district in Mashonaland East province. The study was a qualitative research which related on interviews and observations for data gathering. A total of 6 teachers, the school administrator (2), the learners (12) from the school constitute the sample. The study findings show that the implementation of Science teaching in the context of Education 5.0 at the study setting is met with varied views by the educators. The teachers perceived Science education in line with Education 5.0 as useful as possible as evidenced by their positive attitude towards the adoption of education 5.0. It is apparent from study findings that physical infrastructure and financial resources were rated negatively on the school, Gadaga School in UMP district, readiness for the adoption of Science education in line with the Education 5.0. The findings also show that the absence of adequate physical infrastructure and financial resources to support Education 5.0 adoption is contributing to problem in the implementation of Science education because Zimbabwe as a nation is undergoing an economic meltdown. The schools have a duty to prioritise implementation of Science subjects in the study setting in line with the Education 5.0 at secondary school level. The administration by means of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Schools can contribute in the erection of Science laboratories and related infrastructure with the purpose of smoothening the putting into practice of Science subjects teaching-leaning at secondary school level. It is also recommended that schools can participate in Science subjects staff development programmes in addition to training to encourage educators to implement Science education based on Education 5.0 based on their competence. This will also intensify and perfect the effective Science subject teaching and for learning.
