- Abstract
- Timely and uniform seed planting is crucial for crop production and reliability. However, manual seed planting methods have limitations, including poor seed placement, inefficient spacing, and physical strain on farmers. These limitations hinder crop yields and make it difficult for farmers to afford imported planters. To address this, we aimed to develop an inexpensive, manually operated single-row seed sowing machine that is accessible to rural farmers, easy to maintain, and reduces labour needs. We successfully achieved our objective, meeting most design specifications, and the machine performed well under acceptable stress and strain conditions. However, it was not suitable for zero-till land due to torque limitations. Future improvements include using a more powerful motor and exploring electric/hybrid power trains to increase coverage and reduce emissions, making the machine even more accessible and affordable for rural and small-scale farmers.
