Title: Evaluating the effectiveness of climate change adaptation strategies in Zimbabwe: a case study of Makoni district
Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the experiences and perceptions of local communities, government officials, and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) regarding climate change adaptation strategies in Makoni District, Zimbabwe. The research aimed to explore the challenges and opportunities faced by these stakeholders in adapting to climate change, and to assess the effectiveness of existing adaptation strategies. A mixed methodology approach was employed, combining in-depth interviews with 30key informants and focus group discussions with 60 local community members. The findings revealed that climate change has significantly impacted agricultural productivity, food security, and livelihoods in Makoni District. While government officials and NGOs have implemented various adaptation strategies, local communities reported limited access to these initiatives and inadequate support. The study concluded that effective climate change adaptation strategies require collaborative efforts among local communities, government officials, and NGOs, and recommended the development of context-specific adaptation initiatives that prioritize community needs and participation.
