Abstract

This research investigates the intervention strategies aimed at enhancing the efficacy of government social protection measures in alleviating food deficits in rural communities, focusing specifically on Mt. Darwin. The study seeks to understand the various factors influencing food insecurity and the role of existing social protection programs. Utilizing a qualitative research methodology, conducting in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with 20 participants, including community members, local leaders, and government officials. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis, aligning the findings with the research objectives and existing literature. The study identified critical barriers to the effectiveness of social protection measures, such as inadequate outreach, limited resources, and lack of community involvement. It revealed that while programs like cash transfers and food assistance have made a positive impact, challenges remain in ensuring that these measures reach the most vulnerable populations. The research emphasizes the importance of community engagement and tailored interventions to address specific local needs. In light of the theoretical framework of food security and social protection, the findings suggest that enhancing the efficacy of these measures requires a multi-faceted approach, including improved coordination among stakeholders, better resource allocation, and the integration of local cultural practices. The study recommends strategies such as targeted awareness campaigns, training for local implementers, and the establishment of community monitoring systems to improve program delivery. The implications of this research extend to policymakers, social workers, and community organizations, providing insights for developing more effective social protection programs. By fostering collaboration between government entities and local communities, the research aims to contribute to sustained improvements in food security and overall well-being in rural areas of Mt. Darwin.
